The final phase of the CAP reform negotiation starts

After two days of negotiations, last night, before midnight, the AGRI Council of Ministers reached an agreement on a "general approach” on the reform of the Common agricultural policy.

The Council did some steps towards the Commission's proposal on the main principles of mandatory greening of direct payments, transparency, sugar, limited coupled payments. Nevertheless, significant efforts are still needed for an ambitious internal convergence, for a European solution for young farmers and active farmers, and for a strong, simple, efficient approach to make greening effective all across Europe. We can now start the trialogues – the negotiations between the Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission, with the aim to reach a political agreement on the reform before the end of June.
