Commissioner Cioloş attended the 30th anniversary of Rural Solidarity

The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Cioloş, with Jerzy Buzek, the President of the European Parliament, participated to the conference organised in Rzeszow (Poland) on the 12 of March, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Rural Solidarity movement.

"I know how much Rural Solidarity had positively influenced the other Eastern Countries by giving them the spirit of freedom", Commissioner Cioloş stated. New Member States "brought a considerable farming potential to the EU", he underlined, adding that we must "build together a new reality".

Earlier, in Kielce, together with the Polish Minister for Agriculture, Marek Sawicki, commissioner Cioloş opened the international fair of agricultural equipments Agrotech. "There is a lot of potential for agriculture in the Eastern part of the European Union", he said. "Today, agriculture has to perform in productivity, to perform in quality and to perform in sustainability", he stressed. "It is necessary to boost our efforts in innovation, research and advisory systems for farmers. These elements will be at the heart of the future Common agriculture policy". During the visit, the Commissioner and the Polish Minister also discussed the agenda of the future Polish presidency of the EU in agriculture.
