Labour market reforms must continue according to the Commission's Joint Employment Report

The Joint Employment Report (JER) was adopted on Monday 9 March by the EU's Council of Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs.

According to the JER, the employment and social situation continues to cause concern and reforms supporting the well-functioning of the labour markets must continue.

 Other recommendations include:

  • stepping up of the Youth Guarantee implementation,
  • investing adequately in human capital through education and training to increase productivity,
  • reintegrate long term unemployed in the labour market,
  • improve tax benefits systems to support job creation
  • tackle gender gaps
  • modernise social protection systems to provide effective protection for all.
