This by-invitation-only conference will examine the Commission’s proposals for expanded judicial training facilities and for monitoring progress.
On 21 March 2013 150 European company representatives will meet in Brussels and exchange their ideas on strategies to better access the labour force potential of women by increasing gender equality and thereby contributing to a reduction of the gender pay gap. Selected companies will showcase their activities, results and experience of tapping into the female talent pool more effectively.

The Forum was a one-day event structured around three panels. The first panel focused on the contribution of gender equality to economic growth; the second one looked at gender equality from a business angle; and the third panel debated ways to address gender stereotypes. The findings of the new OECD report were released on the day of the event.
The conference, organised every year in close cooperation with the European Disability Forum, is part of the EU’s wider efforts to promote the mainstreaming of disability issues in line with the EU Disability Strategy 2010-2020 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).
The Forum organised by the Committee of the Regions, one month before the official start of the European Year 2013, will take stock of the impact of EU citizenship on local and regional policy making.

The European Forum on the rights of the child is an annual conference organised by the European Commission which gathers key actors from European Institutions, EU Member States, Ombudspersons for children, international organisations and NGOs to exchange ideas and best practices on topical issues related to children's rights.

To mark this year’s International Missing Children Day, the European Commission, with the support of Missing Children Europe, the European Federation for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children, organised a high level conference in Brussels on 30 May.
The Danish Presidency of the European Council 2012, in cooperation with the Intergovernmental Group Europe de l'Enfance and the European Commission organised a Conference on child poverty and children's social rights followed by the meeting of the Group Europe de l'Enfance. The Conference and the meeting were held on 19 and 20 March 2012 in Copenhagen.
The FRA, together with the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, organised a seminar on the practical application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights on 15-16 March 2012 in Copenhagen. This seminar explored the challenges and opportunities of applying the Charter in practice, both at EU and national level, with a view to identifying promising practices and finding ways to improve cooperation between responsible authorities, European and national institutions, and civil society.

) on Wednesday 16 November to discuss consumer problems with digital products, such as e-mail, social networks, music, films, e-books or e-learning services. Problems include incomplete or incomprehensible information, interrupted access to content and faulty products.
On the initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, the European Day of Civil Justice is celebrated every year on 25 October. Judicial institutions of the Member States are invited to actively participate in the celebration of this day, by organising events for a wide public (in particular youth) and judicial professionals. Citizens loose time and money figuring out which court is competent and which law applies to their property regime, when they marry or when their marriage or partnership comes to an end because of death or divorce. In Europe, there are around 16 million international couples, and at least 650,000 of them face these questions every year. The European Commission adopted two legislative proposals on 16 March 2011 to bring legal clarity to the property rights for married couples and for registered partnership with an international dimension.
The Council of EU Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Ministers will meet on 7 March in Brussels. The European Commission will be represented by László Andor, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, and Vice-President Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Justice. This Council also prepares the Spring European Council later in March.
To raise awareness of the existence of the gender pay gap, the European Commission is launching a European Equal Pay Day (EEPD) which will become an annual event across Europe. As it develops the EEPD will provide a focus for activities to raise awareness of the gender pay gap and the need to take action to close it.
On the basis of new figures published today, the Commission will have an exchange of views with companies and social partners to see what measures they have taken and intend to take in the near future to improve the gender balance in board rooms. Over the next 12 months, the Commission will closely monitor progress. After that period, the Commission will assess whether further measures are required.
The Commission adopted a five-year strategy for promoting equality between women and men in Europe. The strategy aims in particular to make better use of women's potential, thereby contributing to the EU's overall economic and social goals.
On May 5 2010 the results of a European study - commissioned by DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities - investigating initiatives such as prizes, awards, labels, charters, rankings etc. targeted at promoting gender equality in businesses and organisations were presented.
The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) opened its doors in Vilnius on 16 December 2009. The EIGE's Management Board, the Institute's decision-making body, also held its last official meeting of 2009 in Vilnius. On 17 December, stakeholders, NGOs and members of the general public interested in the EIGE's activities met the EIGE's Management Board.
In May 2009 the Commission organised a conference dedicated to personal data use and protection and to examining new challenges for privacy.
The European Commission has launched an EU-wide campaign to help tackle the gender pay gap. Across the EU economy, women earn on average 17.4% less than men. The simple concept of 'equal pay for work of equal value' is at the heart of the campaign being launched in the context of International Women's Day on 8 March to raise awareness of the pay gap, its causes, and how to tackle it.
