ET DES AUTRES MALADIES NEURO-DEGENERATIVES

START OF PROJECT: DURATION OF PROJECT (MONTHS): 12
OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:

Contact person: Mr STEVENSON-ROBB FRED

PARTNER COUNTRIES :

FIN,D,I,UK
START OF PROJECT: DURATION OF PROJECT (MONTHS): 15
OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:

Memory disorders are common symptoms of Alzheimer type dementia (DAT) and early indicators of the disease. Anecdotal evidence suggests that people in the early stages of DAT tend to have greater difficulty in "remembering to do things" and to do them at the appropriate time (prospective memory), than retrieving information from the past (retroprospective memory). Despite the potentially serious consequences of prospective memory failures, information is scant as to the extent of such failures in DAT and their impact on everyday life of the sufferers and carers. This work is intended to add to the understanding of the precise nature of the memory deficits from which these patients suffer, disseminate this information to care givers as a means to enhance the quality of life of the patients, and help extend independent living of DAT sufferers. We also aim to assess current medical knowledge of specific everyday memory problems in DAT, and increase the professional awareness of these deficits, thereby assisting early diagnosis and advice in primary care.
