OBJECTIVES
AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:
Les principaux objectifs spécifiques
de cette recherche sont les suivants :
1. Inventorier les différentes
sources de données hospitalières (i.e. toutes

OBJECTIVES
AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:
l'influencent.

OBJECTIVES
AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:
1. The objective of the work
is to promote quality in the life conditions of
persons suffering from neurodegenerative diseases
such as Alzheimers diseases and related disorders.
In order to further this quality an innovative
training programme for care givers will be
developed and adapted to the conditions of the
participating Member States and tested in relation
to the different types of groups, in some cases
different types of dementia. The aim of this
training programme is to facilitate the
integration of formal and informal care and the
access to care for dependent older people.
2. To write a handbook on
the best practice of training programmes and
organize a transnational colloqium to disseminate
the findings. The handbook should be seen as a
contribution to an European action plan on
neurodegenerative disorders and as an awareness
raising tool.
3. Special arrangements will
be made to inform widely of the outcome.

current research and literature - Review current
medical knowledge in the areas of early detection,
diagnoses and treatment - Determine levels and
incidence of neurodegenerative disease regionally
in E.U. - Compare current strategies for
intervention - Examine linkages between public and
voluntary services - Determine social and economic
costs of neurodegenerative disease's, including
family impact and informal carers.
It will carry out an in
depth examination of current service provision. It

OBJECTIVES
AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:
Memory disorders are common
symptoms of Alzheimer type dementia (DAT) and
early indicators of the disease. Anecdotal
evidence suggests that people in the early stages
of DAT tend to have greater difficulty in
"remembering to do things" and to do
them at the appropriate time (prospective memory),
than retrieving information from the past
(retroprospective memory). Despite the potentially
serious consequences of prospective memory
failures, information is scant as to the extent of
such failures in DAT and their impact on everyday
life of the sufferers and carers. This work is
intended to add to the understanding of the
precise nature of the memory deficits from which
these patients suffer, disseminate this
information to care givers as a means to enhance
the quality of life of the patients, and help
extend independent living of DAT sufferers. We
also aim to assess current medical knowledge of
specific everyday memory problems in DAT, and
increase the professional awareness of these
deficits, thereby assisting early diagnosis and
advice in primary care.

OBJECTIVES
AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT:
The University of Maastricht

evaluationof Alzheimer's disease and related
disorders.
In the near future, using
this instrument, clinicians and scientists will be
able to abtain better and more reliable
information. It will also enable them to exchange
