Joint Conference „Inclusion through Education and Culture”

From 14/10 to 15/10

The University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC) will hold its 4. Annual Conference and General Assembly of UNeECC on 14-15 October 2010, in Pécs, one of this year’s European Capitals of Culture.

The Conference is jointly organised by UNeECC and the Compostela Group of Universities and will be hosted by the University of Pécs.

In this European Year of ‘Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion’ the central theme of the UNeECC- Compostela Joint Conference will be ‘Inclusion through Education and Culture’.

Representatives from universities and other institutions of higher education that are a member of UNeECC and the Compostela Group of Universities and/or are located in cities which are, have been, or will be designated European Capitals of Culture (ECoC)  as well as representatives of ECoC offices will present papers in three different conference tracks:

  • Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion
  • The Assessment of the European Capitals of Culture Programme
  • ECoC Programme and the Combat against Poverty and Social Exclusion


The Pécs conference will touch upon key issues of present-day social and cultural policies in Europe and the role of Universities in them. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the European Capital of Culture programme, the Joint conference will also offer a possibility to hear presentations about the evaluation and the future prospects of the programme.

The participants will be able to enjoy the exhibition made by the Documentation Centre on European Capitals of Culture, Athens, show casting the 25 years of the European Capital of Culture programme.

The Keynote Speaker of the UNeECC - Compostela Joint Conference will be László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities.
