Fresh violence in Libya is pushing people to flee to safety and is creating new humanitarian challenges. To help care for the displaced, the European Commission is contributing €215 774 through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC).

More than 600 people have been killed in recent weeks, and at least 10 000 families have been displaced.

Food supplies in Tripoli and parts of Benghazi are running low, cash is difficult to obtain due to bank closures and there are serious disruptions in the electricity supply.

The Commission's assistance will go toward food assistance to the displaced people and vulnerable host communities, as well as blankets, mattresses and kitchen sets and psychosocial support.
