Meeting with Neven Mimica, Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia

Meeting with Neven Mimica, Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia

The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle met the Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia Neven Mimica today in Brussels to discuss the country's final preparations for EU membership. They expressed their common commitment to a successful and well-prepared accession on 1 July 2013. Commissioner Füle was encouraged by the fact that overall Croatia is on track in its preparations for membership. Discussions focussed on the upcoming comprehensive monitoring report that will be adopted by the Commission on 10 October and in particular on issues identified in the chapters on competition policy, judiciary and fundamental rights as well as justice, freedom and security. The Commissioner emphasised the importance of the translation and revision of the acquis in time for accession.

Croatia's EU accession is due to join the EU in less than nine months and it is essential to use this time to complete the remaining tasks related to the EU-membership, in particular those areas where further efforts are required. Commissioner Füle expressed its conviction that Croatia will remain firmly focussed on this and will continue to respect the commitments taken in the accession negotiations.
