The 30 finalists of the 2023 REGIOSTARS competition for the best EU Cohesion policy projects are announced. 228 applicants competed in 6 categories: “A more competitive and Smart Europe”, “Green Europe”, “Connected Europe”, “Social Europe” “Europe closer to citizens” and the specific 2023 Topic of the Year “European Year of Skills”.

An independent jury selected five finalists per category among the 228 applications received. All geographies are represented in the roster of finalists, including a number of Interreg projects. Czech Republic, Poland, Spain were able to secure multiple presence in the finalists list, but also Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria and other 6 countries have meaningful projects in the final.
What are the next steps? There are three dates to be marked on the calendar:
- 14 September, with the start of the public vote on the competition platform.
- 11 October, with the final round of project pitches happening during the EU Regions’ Week
- 16 November, with Regiostars ceremony and announcement of winners happening in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Since 2008, the REGIOSTARS competition awards the best Cohesion-funded projects that demonstrate excellence and new approaches in regional development.
