Commissioner Ferreira will participate in the General Affairs Council to exchange on the role of Cohesion Policy in delivering on EU priorities

Tomorrow, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will be in Luxembourg to attend the General Affairs Council on Cohesion Policy, to discuss with Ministers the recent adoption of the 9th Cohesion Report and the role that Cohesion Policy has in strengthening competitiveness in all EU regions and delivering on EU priorities.

The Commissioner will discuss the link between Cohesion Policy and the EU strategic agenda for 2024-2029, which will set out the EU’s political priorities for the future and will be adopted by the European Council during its meeting in June 2024. Exchanges will focus on the Policy’s important role in ensuring that all regions, while taking into account their specificities, challenges, and differences, can play an active role in Europe’s response to unprecedented crises and can help to implement future EU priorities.

The meeting will see the Commissioner and Ministers adopt the Council conclusions on the Commission Communication on the 9th Cohesion Report. These conclusions will provide a good basis for discussions on the future shape of Cohesion Policy, and ways to ensure that it continues its mission of narrowing economic, social, and territorial disparities, and ensuring prosperity and convergence across the EU.
