SOLO Logistic Park brings investment and jobs to North-East Romania

  • 15 July 2015

The SOLO Logistic Park in Iasi, the largest city in the North-East Region of Romania, is an important new means of business support in a region that has struggled in terms of development, and that has the lowest GDP per capita in Romania. It is the first development of its kind in the North-East Region, and is attracting investment to the area and stimulating the creation of new jobs. It is making a crucial contribution to turning Iasi, a city in which employment has been hit hard by the economic downturn, into an important economic and industrial centre.

Only one year after starting the construction works, Solo Logistic Park was complete and our partners are already using its facilities. Today, 11 companies are operating in the park, occupying 85 % of its floor space. This may be a signal that Iasi intends to become an important industrial pole, and we are well positioned at national level in 2014.

Location with good accessibility

The Park is situated by the side of European Route E85, the main access route from Bucharest and the rest of the country. It is close to the junction with the Iasi ring road, which ensures easy access for heavy machinery. Its international aspect is underlined by the fact that it lies just 24 km from the border with Moldova and 140 km from that with Ukraine.

Four halls, each of 2 400 m2, with 17 doors and 9 ramps, and 8.95 m in height, have been built. A 2 000 m2 office building provides the companies located in the Park with meeting rooms and catering facilities. A 23 000 m2 parking area is also available to make it easy to manoeuvre and park lorries.

Different sized logistical units and office areas

The Solo Logistic Park is designed in such a way that an individual company can use between 600 and 9 600 m2 of hall space, or between 35 and 2 000 m2 of office space. The park also hosts a business support structure that boasts 11 209.29 m2 of floor space, and includes two disabled access ramps.

As well as direct employees, 300 people were working within the Park for the various companies using its facilities by the end of this project. This number is expected to reach about 1 500 within the two years that follow.

Iasi's educational institutions have a good history and are highly regarded. This is reflected in the city's continued ability to attract businesses and workers, in spite of recent economic difficulties, and makes it an ideal location for the SOLO Logistic Park.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Logistic Park Letcani” is EUR 6 393 078, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 2 625 557 from the Regional Operational Programme for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
