Jobs and exports in the Carinthia region of Austria are set to receive a major boost with the development of the Bosch Mahle TurboSystems production site. Located in the district of St Michael, investment at the site will fund four new production modules and ancillary infrastructure.

At their operations in St Michael, the Bosch Mahle TurboSystems group develops turbo charges for use in diesel- and fuel-driven passenger cars and light utility vehicles. The new production modules will help streamline production and build capacity.
Spurring further investment
It is hoped that through this investment, the production site at St Michael will become a competence centre for technological development and innovative production techniques. This will hopefully attract other small and medium-sized enterprises to invest in the area, thus realising all the benefits of a vibrant industrial cluster.
In keeping with its focus on innovation, the new development is a product of close collaboration with universities and research institutes in the Carinthia region. It contributes to regional priorities of creating jobs and export-oriented products. An estimated 200 jobs directly linked to the project are expected to be created, while an additional 470 indirect jobs are expected once the project is operational in June 2015.
Total investment and EU funding
Total investment for the project “BMTS Austria (Bosch Mahle TurboSystems Austria)” is EUR 76 954 474, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 4 100 000 from the Operational Programme “Carinthia” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
