New tanker truck makes the Braškov volunteer fire brigade’s work easier – and safer

  • 16 December 2020

The Braškov volunteer fire brigade, in Czechia’s Kladno region, is able to protect lives and property more effectively, thanks to a new, state-of-the-art tanker truck purchased with the help of EU funds.

The purchase of the new fire truck increases the Kladno region’s ability to respond to an emergency, including those caused by climate change, such as extreme drought.

Pavel Hornik, Volunteer Fire Brigade

The volunteer brigade has been fighting fires with a tanker that dates back to 1968. The outdated equipment, put the brigade at a serious disadvantage. It was a great disservice to local communities and it put the safety of the firefighters at risk.

In addition, the increasing risk of fires, the result of extreme droughts caused by climate change, has made it vital for the brigade to have better equipment.

State-of-the-art

The new, large-capacity fire tank is a state-of-the-art CAS 30/9000/540 s S 3 VH T815-7 6x6 truck. As a heavyweight emergency firefighting vehicle, not only is it versatile enough to respond to urban emergencies, its rugged durability means it can be easily taken off-road to respond to forest fires.

The truck can transport up to three firefighters and has a 9 000 litre water tank and a 540 litre foam tank. The fire pump has a nominal flow rate of 3 000 litres per minute. It comes equipped with a foam machine, carriage nozzle, high pressure flow hose reel, and electronic foaming admixture.

Faster and more efficient

The truck replaces the obsolete CAS32 tanker on a Tatra 138 chassis. Built over 50 years ago, it is no longer able to meet modern requirements.

Now, thanks to the new fire tank, the Braškov volunteer fire brigade is an important component of the country’s Integrated Rescue System. It is better prepared to respond to emergencies, which could mean more lives saved.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Purchase of a large capacity fire tank for the Braškov volunteer fire brigade unit” is EUR 306 320, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 260 372 through the “Integrated Regional” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Jobs, Growth and Investment”.
