Live by Energy: free energy efficiency advice across Slovakia

  • 19 April 2022

Implemented by the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency, the EU-funded Live by Energy project provides free professional consultation services on energy efficiency and renewable energy to raise public awareness of these issues. The wider goal is to cut CO2 emissions and accelerate move towards a low-carbon economy. The services are for owners of single-family houses and apartment buildings, children and young adults; private companies; and public institutions such as national and local authorities and schools.

"The advantage of our advice is that it is personalised. We always look into the specific circumstances and try to find the best options from an ecological and financial standpoint.”

Michal Ilovič, Project Manager, Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency

Consultation centres where people can speak to energy experts have been set up in Bratislava, Trenčín, Banská Bystrica, Žilina and Košice. Individual advice is on offer at exhibitions, trade fairs and festivals. In addition, information can be obtained by calling a dedicated toll-free number or emailing the consultation centres.

Among other topics, the advice covers simple ways of cutting energy consumption, efficient renewable energy use, legal obligations and financial support for the implementation of energy-saving measures.

Activities for children

Live by Energy is a continuation of a project which ran from 2010 to 2015 to educate and provide advice to people on energy efficiency and renewable energy use. Following the first project, it was considered necessary to expand the reach of the project and focus more on reduction of CO2 emissions.

In the second project, particular attention is paid to educating children and young adults. A key part of this is the use of Live by Energy interactive presentations, competitions, experiments and games in schools. All of these have received positive feedback. Themed notebooks, posters and a mobile app have been devised for the purpose.

A wealth of information

The Live by Energy website contains a wealth of material with answers to questions on a wide range of energy-related matters. Much of this material is composed of resources prepared under the project, such as lists of recommendations, extracts from information brochures and presentations delivered at Live by Energy seminars and conferences.

Further features of the website are studies, analyses and strategies, press articles and television footage, and tools to calculate heating costs by fuel type and energy savings from installation of solar panels.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Live by Energy” is EUR 21 276 895, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 16 067 034 through the “Quality of Environment” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Energy efficient low-carbon economy in all sectors”.
