Healthy Ageing Network links innovative partners in Northern Netherlands

  • 05 October 2015

A network in Northern Netherlands strengthens collaboration between universities, medical institutions and businesses to benefit an ageing population.

HANNN is involving a broad range of entrepreneurs, researchers and policy makers, in order to address the societal challenge of demographic change from all angles. This has led to new innovations and strategies, because people came out of their comfort zone and saw new ways to achieve a common goal. And it helps that in the end, Healthy Ageing has a personal meaning to everyone involved.

Daan Bultje, director of HANNN

The Healthy Ageing Network Northern Netherlands (HANNN) aims to develop knowledge in the field of healthy ageing and stimulate economic growth in the Northern Netherlands region. The network brings together knowledge institutions, companies in the life sciences, biotech, pharmacy, ICT, nutrition industry sector and local authorities.

Networking to generate innovative partnerships

The main objective of HANNN is to develop new products for better healthcare and self-management, including products and services which contribute to the prevention and recovery process of implications caused by ageing. Advancements in the field of healthy ageing are made by HANNN partners, while HANNN itself facilitates the business development process and helps acquire funding.

HANNN assists in collaboration within The Netherlands and internationally, namely through exchanging best practices in the area of healthy ageing, providing matchmaking between researchers and entrepreneurs and exchanging experts for conferences and meetings on healthy ageing.

HANNN works in the following five areas: Care & Cure, Food & Nutrition, Healthy Lifestyle, Life Sciences and Medical Technology. A growing number of health innovations are the result of cross-overs between these sectors.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Healthy Ageing Network Northern Netherlands (HANNN)” is EUR 2 875 886, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 97 323 from the Operational Programme “North Netherlands” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
