With the help of EU funds, a Polish medical equipment manufacturer based in Warsaw has developed a device for physiotherapy and rehabilitation that helps treat neurological disorders, while being operated remotely. It uses pulsed magnetic field therapy and light radiation in the visible and infrared range to promote healing, in a safe and non-invasive manner.
Better physiotherapy, with remote operation, thanks to Polish innovation

“We are convinced that the product can introduce changes in the standard of treatment for the patient. The innovative technology and the implementation of ICT tools have contributed to the creation of a unique medical device. The e-management system and the device allow patients to use professional physiotherapy treatments in their homes, under the supervision of a therapist.”
The Viofor S-PRO system is transportable and, because of its compact size, can be used in both medical facilities and at the patient’s home. Remote monitoring allows medical service providers to correct and adjust therapies and improve their effectiveness.
The system was produced by medical device manufacturer Med & Life, in collaboration with the Tele and Radio Research Institute, both in Warsaw.
From light to low frequency magnetic field therapy
The system consists of a microprocessor controller and a set of applicators that generate therapeutic signals. The controller weighs 3.4 kg and has a carrying handle and an intuitive and personalised user interface so that people with disabilities can easily operate and carry it around.
The applicators produce a pulsed magnetic field with different induction ranges, and light radiation in the visible and infrared range. Aside from helping to treat neurological disorders, the Viofor S-PRO system can be used to treat difficult-healing wounds, ulcers, osteoporosis, or fractures.
Remote operation
The device is wirelessly connected to an e-management platform, which allows therapists and medical service providers to operate and configure it and supervise the therapy remotely. They can easily make adjustments to improve the effectiveness of the therapy.
Any incoming data or diagnostics is kept in the e-management system so that it can be used as a knowledge base for future reference. That way, new treatment parameters can be efficiently personalised based on former sessions and input data.
Commercialisation of the Viofor S-PRO system has helped Med & Life strengthen its competitiveness in both the domestic and international market for physical therapy medical devices.
Total investment and EU funding
Total investment for the project “Multifunctional system for physical therapy and rehabilitation, using advanced ICT technologies” is EUR 541 830, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 373 825 through the “Mazowieckie Voivodeship” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “increasing R&D activities of enterprises and increased use of R&D results in the Polish economy”.
