An international partnership programme for researchers in the Centre-Val de Loire region

  • 19 September 2020

The Studium is a regional agency with international scope; its objective is to contribute to the international dynamics of the scientific community. It encompasses public and private research players in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Through its Smart Loire Valley and Ambition Research and Development 2020 programmes, Studium helps enrich scientific expertise in the region by creating international partnerships that promote innovation, and by promoting the region's scientific knowledge and international influence.

In 2019, through these calls for applications, the Smart Loire Valley and Ambition Research and Development 2020, Studium programmes, made it possible to welcome, in the laboratories of the Centre-Val de Loire region, 41 experienced international researchers who came to provide their expertise with a view to initiating or continuing lasting international collaboration.

Marie-Frédérique Pellerin, Head of Finance and Administration

Development of the Smart Loire Valley and Ambition Research and Development 2020 programmes was based on the experience acquired by Studium since 1996 and on its expertise in the development of innovative actions. Upskilling staff and upgrading internal procedures, reception format and web platform made it possible for Studium to accept ERDF funding under the best conditions.

Studium has also launched recruitment campaigns that each year have been shared in the wider community to ensure their dissemination.

Integration of participants

All stays were paid for, which means that in addition to receiving their salary, participants could integrate in the regional scientific community; they also received funding to set up an international conference and the opportunity to present their work at Studium’s monthly interdisciplinary seminars.

In addition, they were able to participate free of charge in many international conferences and benefited from the opportunity to learn French. Furthermore, they were offered administrative assistance before, during and after their stay, as well as furnished accommodation that was adapted, where necessary, to meet any family commitments.

Studium's international profile has increased significantly over the last five years, benefiting the academic and research partners associated with the programme and all those involved in research in the Centre-Val de Loire region.

Added value of research work

The visibility given to these programmes during the various recruitment campaigns, and the organisation of international events in partnership with the selected researchers, have made it possible to highlight the research work carried out in the regions in the various laboratories.

The 31 laboratories with which Studium has collaborated have greatly benefited from both these introductions and the associated international scientific networks. The regional scientific community has been able to draw on new expertise.

As for the selected participants, they were able to increase their skills, forge new international collaborations, and discover the many attractions of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Their time at the Studium – which is often regarded as an institute of excellence – opened new doors for them to further their careers.

Total investment and European funding

The “Studium – 2019 Action Programme” project received a total investment of EUR 706 781, with the European Regional Development Fund’s contribution amounting to  EUR 350 000 under the “ERDF Operational Programme for the Centre-Val de Loire Region" cooperation programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the ‘Jobs, Growth and Investment’ priority.
