Europe in My Region - Region of Azores

As part of “Europe in my region”, regional communication campaigns are deployed around familiar places, and highlight EU-enabled ideas and initiatives that make a difference at the local level. These regional campaigns with an ultra-local flavour are created in partnership with the Regions.

In the region of Azores, from 30 March until 30 April 2023, these emblematic places and initiatives are promoted:

• The School of Sea of Azores in Faial
• The Madalena passenger terminal in Pico
• “LixAZ”, a research project on marine litter in Faial
• “Sea-Things”, a research and knowledge project on the ocean in São Miguel

A sea that fills our soul The sea accompanies our lives. It is in everything we do and is part of who we are. Today, it is easier to learn sea trades, from fishing to rescue, and to give a new future to these professions at the Sea School, in Faial. With the renewed Madalena Station on the island of Pico, we have greater connection between islands. And, all over the archipelago, initiatives are being developed that fight pollution, improve our knowledge of the sea, and help us preserve it. With the efforts of the Azores and the European Union, there are new reasons, in these islands of mist, for the sea to fill our soul.
