Operational Programme ESF Brandenburg 2014-2020
Programme description
Brandenburg will use ESF funding to support sustainable employment and mobility, promote social inclusion and invest in education and training to boost skills and lifelong learning.
The ESF operational programme (OP) for Brandenburg is based on the strategy of ‘good work for everybody and sound transition into the labour market’. The focus of the programme – which totals EUR 452 million – is on measures to improve the competitiveness of enterprises by enhancing the quality, innovation, security and flexibility of the labour market and workforce.
The OP supports the following priorities:
- The main investment – around 38% of the OP funding – will target education, training and vocational training to better equip the workforce with the skills and lifelong learning demanded by the job market. In particular, the Land will target youth, aiming to tackle the problem of students leaving school early, supporting young people through vocational training, and by making sure students stay in the region to work after their studies.
- In response to the increasing demand for a qualified workforce, priority will be given to reinforcing mobility in the labour market, in particular among neglected groups including the elderly, women in part-time jobs, people with disabilities and those from a migrant background. Companies will adopt measures to improve the work/childcare balance and to ensure appropriate working conditions related to age. And for those seeking to become self-employed, support will be offered during the transition period to self-employment.
- To combat poverty and discrimination and ensure social inclusion, everyone must have access to education, training and employment. Here, the programme will focus on better integrating the long-term unemployed into the workforce, along with low-skilled workers, single parents, those with disabilities, migrants and the elderly. In families where both parents are unemployed, special assistance will be provided to improve the educational and professional opportunities available to their children.
What is more, Brandenburg is one of two German regions planning to finance pilot projects in social innovation, enabling it to respond to changing needs in employment policies.
