New production line at PESA Bydgoszcz SA facilitates innovation in railway vehicles manufacturing

  • 27 January 2016

Public transport vehicle manufacturer, PESA, introduced innovative production procedures based on telemetry. Implementation of these procedures and technological development has helped the Polish company compete with the top-performing rivals from their industry.

We cannot imagine our company today without results of this project: our biggest production line is probably the most important and spectacular effect of the project, but introduction of telemetry is also invaluable. Thanks to all these innovations production process organisation and, as a consequence, quality of our vehicles, meets highest standards. Thus, PESA can rival each competitor from the top of railway vehicles production industry.

Tomasz Zaboklicki, CEO, PESA Bydgoszcz SA

PESA Bydgoszcz SA, established in 1851, renewed its production lines between 2009 and 2015. The main goal of the project ‘The introduction of innovative manufacturing technology for the development and operation of telemetric railway vehicles’ was to modify the whole production process by introducing new and innovative methods based on telemetry. These changes have the company become one of the leading railway vehicle manufacturers in Europe.

‘Intelligent’ trams and sustainable public transport

The project involves a significant technological component. The introduction of new production procedures means, above all, development of a telemetric module, which helps to access and monitor operational data from each vehicle equipped with such a module. Data is sent directly (via GSM network) to the company’s servers.

The solutions implemented have positively affected the company’s ability to modify the design and manufacturing of its vehicles, production process effectiveness and increase the quality of the final product by eliminating the most common defects. In consequence, implemented changes enhance vehicle performance, increasing client satisfaction as well as passenger safety and comfort.

The use of telemetric modules also has positive environmental effects, limiting pollution caused by public transport. Six new jobs have been created as a result of the project.

Total investment and EU funding
