Modernisation will bring improved airport facilities to 1.8 million people in the area of the Polish capital city.
New domestic airport to be created by modernising an old military aerodrome in Modlin
- 03 June 2015
Increased passenger capacity
The Modlin airport base, situated 40 km north-west of Warsaw, is a former military facility. Upgrading and modernising the airport will greatly increase the number of passengers using the facility and the overall competitiveness of the Mazovia Region. An estimated 2.12 to 3.23 million passengers per year, or 1 700 per hour, will be able to travel through Modlin airport after the upgrades. To achieve greater mobility, the capacity of the runways will increase to accommodate 24 090 flight operations per year, or between 12 and 15 per hour.
Better transport links for the region
A new passenger terminal will be built, in addition to improvements made to the runways, lighting, drainage, and electrical systems. Inhabitants of the Mazovia Region will benefit from the facility modernisation via improved accessibility and quality of regional public transport.
The newly modernised airport will create favourable conditions for attracting business from regional customers and a growth in airport use by current and future low-cost and charter airlines. A total of 24 jobs are expected to be created once the airport is finished.
