Innovation in the Galenic Laboratory in Olsztyn improves gel and tablet production

The Galenic Laboratory in Olsztyn is the biggest pharmaceutical laboratory in the region. As a result of research and technological development, it managed to enhance its products portfolio and improve the quality of the drugs.

Our laboratory is flexible and we can now easily change the production to adjust it to customer needs.

The project resulted in launching a production of medical products that had not been produced in the region before, such as skin gels Ketoprofen LGO and Diclofenak LGO and tablets Paracetamol 500 LGO, Ibuprofen 200 LGO and Ibuprofen 400 LGO. The aim of the investment was to enter new markets and widen the products offered while improving their quality. 

Within the framework of this project, a new technology line was purchased which included a mixer with a homogeniser, a tube filling machine for plastic and aluminium tubes, and the tubes cartoner. The technological line for tablets required the purchase of the following elements: powder dispenser, three production bins, docking station, mixer for powders, rotary tablet press machine, coating machine, line for packaging (blister machine and cartoner) and a steam generator.

Social and economic impact of innovation

The production of new products was possible due to the innovations in the production process. As a result, new products were introduced and the production process has been significantly improved. 20 new jobs were created and the beneficiary has increased its competitiveness, not only in domestic market but also in the international markets. The implemented innovations led to the decrease in the use of energy. In addition, the project included science-business cooperation as the beneficiary worked closely with the University of Warmia and Mazury. It led to increase of region’s competitiveness and improving the quality of citizens’ life. 

The Galenic Laboratory in Olsztyn is known for using cutting-edge technologies, its own R&D resources and a team of experts in relevant fields. Due to the high costs of innovative medicine production, the Galenic Laboratory produces generic drugs, i.e. drugs that contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. The laboratory derives its name from Claudius Galenus, a prominent Greek physician and surgeon, whose theories influenced Western medical science. 

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Product and process innovation in the the Galenic Laboratory in Olsztyn by launching gel and tablets production ” is EUR 2 518 124, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 918 496 from the Operational Programme “Warminsko-Mazurskie” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
