Perfect lighting, a 24 meter long catwalk, 16 independent video streams, 250 lamps, 8 video display units – this is the equipment of the new Fashion Promotion Centre; a professional art and educational facility built in the city of Łódź in central Poland as a part of EU co-funded project.
Łódź gets professional fashion centre for research and development in textiles and clothing sector
- 01 February 2016
This project has an extraordinary meaning for Łódź as a city with a fashion and clothing industry, the same as for our Academy which specialises in educating young fashion makers and designers. The new facility creates an amazing opportunity for students as it enables them to acquire practical knowledge in organising big art events, fashion weeks and clothing fairs.
The centre, which was built as a part of Łódź Fine Art Academy’s department specialised in fashion design, is a professional facility to host fashion shows, fashion weeks, art exhibitions, conferences and industry fairs.
Above all it is thought to be a meeting place for students and business representatives of the textile and clothing industry based in Łódź – a city with pre-war traditions in the textile industry.
Where art and business meet
The centre creates an extraordinary space for cooperation of art, science and business in order to stimulate research and technological development in textiles and the clothing sector.
The EU co-funded project included funding for research and development tools for the Textile Research Institute in which the students from Łódź Fine Arts Academy will work on innovative solutions for textile and fashion design.
Boost for local economy
The centre combines promotion, information and exhibition activities by organising promotional fashion shows for companies cooperating with Łódź Fine Arts Academy.
The most famous fashion week in Poland – Fashion Philosophy – took place here last year. The facility can also host conferences, concerts, art exhibitions or trade fairs.
This project is very multifunctional. It is not only a world standard exhibit facility but a research institute that creates technological and business solutions for the textile and clothing industry. In the long term it positively influences economic development in the region by supporting small and medium enterprises concentrated in the cluster. Two permanent work places have been created as a result of the project.
Total investment and EU funding
Total investment for the project “Fashion Promotion Center - cluster of textiles and clothing companies” is EUR 6 006 087 (approximately 26 159 018 PLN), of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 4 504 565 (approximately 19 619 263 PLN) from the Operational Programme “Łódźkie” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
