The Sun Trip project: A journey to discover Europe in an inclusive and sustainable way!

On 16 June participants of the fourth edition of the “Sun Trip Project” started a trip all over Europe with solar bikes (bikes powered with solar energy). The “Sun Trip Project” is sponsored by the European Commission.

50 participants, including the En Benur Simone group, embarked in a 10 000 km roadtrip by solar powered e-bikes across 30 countries in Europe.

En Benur Simone is a collective of persons with and without disabilities, which have set themselves the goal of promoting inclusive and accessible mobility via a project entitled “Benur” and developed with the support of EU Cohesion Policy. Benur is a hand bike accessible directly with the wheelchair, without the help of a third party. It is therefore a bike that can be used independently.

Background information

With the European Green Deal, the European Commission has set the goal of achieving climate neutrality in the European Union by 2050.

The Sun Trip project is showing on the one hand that sustainable mobility can be inclusive while on the other hand it is raising awareness for climate change and the liberty of movement we are all enjoying thanks to the Schengen area.

Before the start of their journey Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission for the Green Deal, welcomed the cyclists and highlighted that the project displays the benefits of a healthier and more sustainable future.
