Strategic Approaches to Regional Transformation of Digital Education

This Science for Policy report explores the role of European Commission's frameworks and self-reflection tools in the development of regional educational political approaches in Spain aiming to develop further Digital Competences for teachers and schools.

The Strategic Approaches to Regional Transformation of Digital Education study is based on a collection of interviews with the government responsible for every Spanish Autonomous Community. Based on these interviews, a case for each region is presented using a narrative and visual approach.
 
Two main findings from the study are: 
 
i) the importance of DigCompEdu as the framework that goes beyond the instrumental vision of the digital transformation of education, and helps institutions to envisage, design and structure it
 
ii) SELFIE is considered a critical tool for school awareness and digital planning. Also, the results consolidate the evidence of diverse approaches towards digital transformation, especially given the context of Spain, where the remit of education lies at the regional level.  

Based on the work done, some policy recommendations are presented as part of the study.
