Study visit to the Basque Vocational Education and Training (VET) system
date: 12/09/2023
Between 13 and 15 September, a delegation headed by Bernard Magenhann, Deputy Director-General at the JRC, participated in a study visit to the Basque Country around the digital transformation of the region’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) system.
During the visit, the delegation visited Tknika, the Basque Institute for innovation and applied research in VET where they could learn about different projects they are undertaking to digitally transform their education centres and the Basque industry.
The areas covered in these projects include 3D printing, smart homes, artificial intelligence and virtual worlds, among others. All the projects developed at Tknika have a multidisciplinary approach, involving different disciplines, and several VET institutions.
Later, the colleagues visited two VET institutions where they got more insights into some of these projects in practice.
Finally, the delegation exchanged with the Basque counterparts about future and potential lines of collaboration.
The members of the JRC delegation were: Bernard Magenhann, Deputy Director-General; Carlos Torrecilla Salinas, Head of Unit; Romina Cachia, Project Leader of Digital Education and Skills; César Herrero, responsible for the VET digital transformation file and Lilian Weikert García, in charge of technical team for the Digital Education and Skills Team.
