Introducing our Succession Planning Sector

We are back with an update on our activities after the last few months of considerable changes in our Directorate General at large and more specifically in unit B1. Our team is now led by Manuela Brovarone (Acting head of unit B1 “Talent Development”) and Fernando Leitão (Head of sector B1.001 “Succession Planning’).

Following the reorganisation of our DG in January, we have been given a stronger mandate to support the training of the future generation of SCIC interpreters. We will maintain our traditional forms of cooperation such as Pedagogical Assistance, grants and bursaries but we will also be thinking of other ad-hoc initiatives, in line with the needs of the institutions.

The need to assist candidate countries with their accession process, in particular Ukraine, prompted us to organise a dedicated Training for Trainers session for Ukrainian conference interpreting trainers this summer. It took place in Brussels from 10 to 14 July and allowed us to meet new partners, share our views on interpreter training with them and, at the same time, inform them about interpreters’ work in the European institutions.
