Welcome back to the first edition of the SCIC-Universities newsletter in 2019. During the last months we have been very busy with new challenges and we are proud to present the results of our reflections and our activities in this newsletter.

SCIC's first ever Edit-a-thon

Back-to-back with the SCIC Universities Conference 2019, we are organising an Edit-a-thon for the Knowledge Centre on Interpretation, led by Elisabet Tiselius from TÖI, Stockholm.

The Knowledge Centre on Interpretation: version 2.0

We have exciting news! After all the major work done over the last few months since the launch, we will soon have a new version of the platform with some important improvements that will make it more user friendly.

Reframing of cooperation with universities

Since June of last year, there has been an in-depth reflection within SCIC about our system of cooperation with universities. On the basis of statistics compiled and analysed and given the need to be more cost-effective, a reflection group including different parts of our service was called to think about refocussing and targeting better our different cooperation tools.

Young Interpreters Award 2019

In the framework of our annual conference SCIC-Universities 2019, all students in their last year of MA in Conference Interpreting were invited to participate in the Young Interpreters Award 2019 speech writing contest.

What's new in the Speech Repository?

On December the 3rd 2018, we held our annual Speech Repository Steering Committee meeting. The Committee is composed of several members of the European Institutions as well as of two university representatives. This time we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms Susan Folan from the National University of Ireland, Galway, from non-EMCI universities and Mr Dirk Reunbrouck, KU Leuven, Belgium for the EMCI consortium.

UNOG Seminar

In the framework of the cooperation between SCIC and UNOG (United Nations Office in Geneva), Fernando Leitão, from SCIC's Interpreter training support team and Garry Mullender, UNOG staff interpreter, conducted a day and a half seminar on Interpretation into the B language.

Grants

The work programme 2019 on financial support for training in conference interpreting was adopted by the Commisison in early February. .
