Non legislative, cooperation initiatives

The most recent updates regarding food loss and waste prevention initiatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Romania (MADR) include:

1. Following the development of a collaboration protocol with the Department for Sustainable Development (DDD) within the General Secretariat of the Romanian Government, further steps have been undertaken in order to launch work on the creation and dissemination of an advertising spot with an impactful anti-waste message, aiming to raise public awareness on food waste and to educate citizens to prevent and reduce food waste.

2. An additional act to the Protocol of Cooperation with DDD has also been established in order to obtain financial support for the translation and dissemination of the educational materials published by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations , entitled 'Do Good: Save Food! Educating future generations for a zero food waste world!'. The educational materials will be distributed in schools across Romania.

3. The last institutional steps are made in order to conclude a protocol with IKEA Romania, in order to develop actions/campaigns to raise awareness and inform citizens and the business environment in the agri-food field regarding the need to prevent and reduce food waste. A similar collaboration has also been established with the Institute for Research in Circular Economy and Environment 'Ernest Lupan', which conducts specific research activities in the field of food waste in Romania.
