Commissioner announces the winners of the 2020 EU Health Award for cities, NGOs, schools and kindergartens promoting vaccination and healthy lifestyles in children

Today, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides announced the winners of the 2020 EU Health Award for NGOs, schools and kindergartens promoting vaccination in children (0-18 years old) and for cities and schools promoting healthy lifestyles for children (6-18 years old).

The award ceremony took place online as part of the EU Health Policy Platform annual meeting  with more than 160 participants and online viewers. Each category has being awarded a prize ranging from EUR 20 000 to EUR 50 000 per category and call, to further their work, as well as a trophy and a certificate.

I. Call on Vaccination

NGO category

  • 1st Prize Winner: The Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF – Cyprus)
  • 2nd Prize Winner: The Polish Pharmaceutical Students' Association (Poland)
  • 3rd Prize Winner: The Dutch Cancer Society (The Netherlands)


II. Call on Healthy Lifestyles

CITY category

  • 1st Prize Winner: Iasi (Romania)
  • 2nd Prize Winner: Mollet del Vallès (Spain)
  • 3rd Prize Winner: Local Governments' Association of the Buda Region (Hungary)

SCHOOL category

  • 1st Prize Winner: Primary School "Vuk Stefanović Karadžić" Doboj (Bosnia-Herzegovina)
  • 2nd Prize Winner: Drakenhof Primary School (Belgium)
  • 3rd Prize Winner: CEIP Juan Pablo I (Spain)


Background

Within the general context of the EU Health Policy Platform, the 2020 EU Health Award honours cities, NGOs, schools and kindergartens that are making a positive difference in their communities by promoting vaccination and healthy lifestyles among children. The Award celebrates their commitment and raises awareness of the vital role cities, NGOs, kindergartens and schools play in strengthening participative democracy and active citizenship in public health.
