A roadmap for reducing and monitoring food waste in Finland

date:  21/02/2021

In January 2021, the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) published a food waste reduction and monitoring roadmap. The roadmap was developed over the course of 2.5 years in close cooperation with ministries, companies, associations, and other stakeholders of the food supply chain.

The roadmap consists of six key topics covering regulation and policy instruments, changes in practices, education and information guidance, new technology and business models, research work and last but not least, cooperation among actors of the whole food supply chain. Every topic includes a list of measures to reduce food waste, which will be updated to incorporate food waste reduction innovations, functions, projects, and other developments. The aim is to make the topics and measures available to all stakeholders and to strengthen cooperation among actors of the food supply chain.
