Consumer awareness campaign 'Respect food completely!'

The Estonian Ministry of the Environment launched on 29 September 2020, in order to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW), a consumer awareness campaign, promoting tips to prevent food waste, as well as information on date marking. The headline of the campaign was 'Austa toitu jäägitult!', which can be translated in English as 'Respect food completely' or 'Respect food without leftovers'.

The active period of the campaign was until 13 October 2020, but in collaboration with other stakeholders, the materials of the campaign will be disseminated through various channels until the end of the year. The materials have been promoted on TV, radio, social media and on billboards in different towns in Estonia. All the materials are promoted in Estonian, but also in Russian, in order to reach different target groups.

High-level conference 'Stop food loss and waste!'

On the occasion of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, a hybrid high-level conference 'Stop food loss and waste!' was organized in Estonia. The conference focused on the prevention of food waste from the perspective of food redistribution. Various Estonian news sites, as well as the European Food Banks Federation (in the context of its own virtual event to mark the IDAFLW) streamed the event live. The main organizers of the conference were the Estonian FoodBank, with the help of different Ministries and other partners.

Speakers included experts and practitioners from various sectors of the food supply chain in Estonia, as well as from public authorities and research institutes.
