Food waste-themed infotainment at summer events in Bulgaria and Lithuania.

date:  21/09/2020

The Sincerely, Food* team took to the streets to offer consumers interactive food waste-themed ‘infotainment’ activities. A street food & music festival in Bourgas (Bulgaria) and a popular ideas festival, Freedom Picnic, in Lithuania accommodated Sincerely, Food’s tents, proposing to attendees a series of games. Each game had its own narrative, covering key topics related to food waste, such as the water footprint of food, product date markings, a product’s journey, and the global impacts of food waste.

No chairs were left unoccupied at the special sessions organised within the context of the leftovers-based meal preparation show, featuring a popular blogger. Restrictions related to COVID-19, such as wearing a mask, did not seem to have an impact on people’s interest in these events and activities related to sustainable consumption.

* Sincerely, Food is an innovative and ambitious awareness campaign promoting a positive and consumer-friendly approach to reduce food waste at home. The campaign is an initiative of six Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in six countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania) who have teamed up to address household food waste. The project is supported by the EU DEAR programme – Development Education and Awareness Raising - and is led by the Lithuanian Consumer Institute.
