Opening of a new storage space for surplus food in Vienna.

date:  21/09/2020

On 21 August 2020, the opening of the “Große TafelHaus” at the “Großmarkt Wien Inzersdorf“ (wholesale market in Vienna) was celebrated in the presence of the Federal Minister for Climate Action and the Mayor of Vienna.

The “Große TafelHaus“ is a new building which provides 800 square meters of additional area for cold storage and logistics. The new space sends out a strong signal against poverty, hunger and food waste, because it will allow even more surplus edible food to be redistributed to social institutions and to people in need.

The “Großmarkt Wien Inzersdorf“, situated in Laxenburger Strasse 365-367, 1230 in Vienna, is Austria’s most important wholesale market for food and flowers. The Austrian food bank WienerTafel has already redistributed surplus food from the wholesale market to around 19.000 people in need.
