Online Wasteless lesson on food waste prevention for schools and facilitating donation of household surplus food.

date:  19/06/2020

Online Wasteless lesson on food waste prevention

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wasteless team used to visit Hungarian primary schools and provide workshops on food waste prevention to children and teachers. In order to support the teachers’ work and ensure continuity of the Wasteless activities even during the COVID-19 lockdown, the presentation and video were uploaded on the Nebih’s YouTube channel, so that it can be integrated in the online school lessons.

The recorded Wasteless lesson on food waste prevention can be viewed here.

Facilitating donation of household surplus food in the post COVID-19 lockdown period

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many households have increased their food reserves. As soon as the relevant authorities started relaxing measures and lifting restrictions, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) and the Hungarian Food Bank Association encouraged consumers to donate non-perishable foodstuffs which would not be consumed before the 'best before' date, to those in need. As part of this initiative, Nébih and the Hungarian Food Bank Association identified 89 collection points across the country, where residents could deliver their donations.

The collected non-perishable food products will be distributed to vulnerable groups by partner organisations of the Hungarian Food Bank Association.
