EU LIFE Programme supports food waste reduction & prevention actions: Calls for proposals out soon!

LIFE Programme is the EU funding instrument for environment and climate action. The new LIFE Call for proposals will be published as of mid-April. 2023 LIFE info days will take place on 25-26 April.

Launch of a new project "WASTELESS" to measure and reduce food losses and waste in the EU

A new Horizon Europe project, WASTELESS, aims to develop tools and recommendations for measuring, monitoring and ultimately reducing food loss and food waste by at least 20% annually.

Austria - looking for new fruit and vegetables sources for food banks

The idea of the project is to redistribute available quantities of fruit and vegetables from fields and orchards as an alternative to redistributing such surplus from supermarkets.

Voluntary agreement "Together against food waste" signed in Croatia

On March 23, a voluntary agreement on the prevention and reduction of food waste was signed in Zagreb, which is an important part of the Plan for the prevention and reduction of food waste in the Republic of Croatia.

Finland´s national waste law and decree imposes businesses to keep a record of food waste

Finnish food chain actors are obliged to keep a record of their food waste from the beginning of 2022 based on the revised waste law and the new waste decree.

Hungary: Easter Greening special contest

Project Wasteless is launching its Easter Greening competition, which aims to increase awareness on reducing food waste and to promote the waste hierarchy, as the festive season approaches.

Nordic Food Waste Summit 2023

The Nordic Food Waste Summit will bring together experts, politicians, authorities, businesses and civil society in an effort to increase co-operation and bring about urgent action to reduce food loss and waste on 26 April. Register now!

Who buys surplus meals? An exploratory survey in Danish canteens

Surplus meal buying behaviours are poorly understood. This study performed consumer segmentation to determine consumers’ buying behaviour towards surplus meals in canteens.

Green Chef, an initiative encouraging children and teenagers in Portugal to fight food waste

The Green Chef is an initiative of DECOJovem, which invites children and young people to make culinary recipes from leftovers and food at risk of going to waste.

Consultation Report under LIFE FOODprint project

The Food Waste Stakeholders Summit took place on 27 October 2022, in Limassol and gathered stakeholders and Cypriot public authorities to discuss food waste prevention actions and recommendations.
