Food loss and waste is globally recognized as a challenge that needs to be addressed in most fishery and aquaculture value chains throughout the world. There has been much work done to address and prevent fish losses, however, a key issue is related to the availability and quality of information.
With support from the Norwegian government, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations began the development of an online repository that provides access to fish loss and waste related information that can be used by a variety of end-users to inform policy and decision-making. One of the goals is to foster multi-dimensional solutions to food loss and waste.
By May 2021, two years after its launch, the site had been accessed by almost 35,000 visitors from 213 countries and territories.
