Dutch Food Waste Free Week

date:  22/10/2020

The second edition of the Dutch Food Waste Free Week, organized by Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling (the Food Waste Free United coalition) in the Netherlands, was held during the first week of September 2020. More than 65 companies, organizations and municipalities participated, while primary schools and supermarkets also contributed to the initiative. All the aforementioned stakeholders took action to help and inspire Dutch consumers waste less food at home by promoting the use of food waste prevention tools and disseminating relevant information.

More than 1.000.000 tools were distributed to consumers, such as the ‘Yes-No Fridge Sticker’, which helps consumers determine what is best stored in the fridge and what is not. Another example is the special measuring cup, which makes it easy for consumers to cook the right portions of pasta, rice and couscous, in order to reduce leftovers.

Consumers also participated in various challenges, and were rewarded with clever tips to reduce food waste.
