How to customise the CPMS to specific ERN needs: the example of ERN-EYE

date:  03/07/2019

The generic version of the CPMS for all ERNs was officially launched on 20 November 2017. At that time, the platform was open to all ERNs but specialty items, such as for ophthalmology, were missing. As a result, for ERN-EYE, the CPMS has been improved and equipped with an EYE specific dataset. This was made possible through collaboration between the European Commission and Working Group leaders from all ERN-EYE clinical areas of expertise. Customisation was carried out in line with the Rare Eye Disease revision of the classification and ontology, and related orphacodes were updated accordingly. This dataset is extensive enough to allow all possible ophthalmic examination results to be entered in a standardised manner to facilitate evaluation by panel experts.

Intensive work on this task began in February 2017 and the first release of the dedicated ERN-EYE dataset was released on 8 November 2018. Since then, a number of clinical cases have been successfully uploaded for review by the panel of experts.
