Restart of the “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” programme, following the lockdown COVID-19 period.

date:  20/06/2020

In May 2020, Boroume has gradually restarted the food saving and offering volunteer actions in the framework of the “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” programme!

“Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” programme aims at reducing food waste generated at the farmers' markets by coordinating the collection and donation of the leftover fresh produce, which otherwise would have been wasted, to local charities.

The recipient charities, though they must still remain on guard, especially since many of them take care of very vulnerable groups of people, were very eager to restart the programme, which ensures fresh produce of high nutritional value for their beneficiaries, to which they would otherwise have limited access. This is even more the case in the light of increasing needs in food assistance.

On the other side, producers and vendors also continue to be committed to save their surplus produce from going to waste, and they are very willing to provide support to charitable organisations and people facing food insecurity.

In addition, Boroume volunteers show unflagging interest and enthusiasm in these food saving actions, while of course following safety rules and acting responsibly.

Since 2015, Boroume has rescued and donated to charities more than 415 tonnes of fruit & vegetables and redistributed them through charities to people in need.
