Key outcomes from 1st EU Blue Parks Community workshop

The 1st Blue Parks workshop ‘Working together for the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems and biodiversity’ brought together over 120 experts to advance marine protection across EU sea-basins.

The 1st workshop of the EU Blue Parks Community marked a pivotal moment in fostering collaborative efforts for the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems and biodiversity across Mission sea-basins.  

With over 120 online participants and a distinguished lineup of speakers from diverse organizations and research projects, this event brought together experts to identify and address common challenges, exchange knowledge and set research and policy priorities.  

The workshop emphasized the importance of enhancing MPA management effectiveness, ensuring good governance, and setting sound conservation objectives including strict protection measures.  

Key discussions focused on MPA networks and connectivity, reducing pressures and addressing transboundary issues and fostering stakeholder engagement in MPA design and management.
