Mission Charter: Racing to 1,000 Actions

Join us in our race to 1,000 Mission Charter actions to contribute to the 2030 Mission objectives!

date:  24/11/2022

This month, the French government formally pledged its support to the Mission Charter. Sylvie Retailleau, Minister for Higher Education and Research, underlined France’s strong commitment to restoring the ocean, seas and waters and to support delivering on the Mission’s 2030 goals. For more information on the pledged actions, please find the press release here.

The diverse Mission Charter actions offer inspiration on how to achieve the Mission objectives on biodiversity, pollution, carbon-neutrality, and circularity. All types of stakeholders, public and private, are welcome to pledge actions from across all Mission Lighthouses and beyond.  So far 475 actions across 140 countries are part of the Mission Ocean and Waters Charter, mobilising a budget of nearly EUR 4.43 billion.

Be inspired by the diverse actions, whether it be a research on blue carbon or an accelerator network for port solutions:

Research and innovation: the European Marine Board Policy Brief No. 11: Blue Carbon (cross-basin); the Living Ports Project on the Atlantic/Artic coast.

Upscaling/deployment/replication solutions: the Danube Alliance on-bioeconomy value chains; the cross-basin Blue Impact Ports Accelerator Network

Citizens’ engagement and outreach: The “Driving the Blue Economy in Barcelona”.

Government Measure in the Mediterranean Sea: the Elizabeth Swann and the Jules Verne world hydrogen challenge in the Atlantic/Artic Coast.

Education and training: the Danube Delta: Water-Health and Hygiene Education project: the Ū-vitamīns drinking source initiative in the Baltic/North Sea (Latvia).

Get inspired by innovative solutions that could be scalable and replicable in your context. For instance, Aarhus University and partners are working on the Win@sea project in the Baltic/North Sea. The project develops a Multi-Use Platform, combining renewable wind energy production with nature-based solutions. It contributes to all Mission objectives on biodiversity, pollution, carbon neutrality and circularity. We encourage you to look at our Mission Solutions Library, which also includes results from Mission Charter actions.

To achieve the Mission goals, we need a joint and collaborative effort! More than 350 Mission Charter actions are conducted by several partners and over 110 actions are looking for additional partners, ranging from technical expertise, communication & dissemination, financial investment and more.
