In the context of the EU Mission on Cancer and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) produced in March 2022 key recommendations on improvement of cancer screening across the EU. This scientific opinion, supported by strong and independent scientific evidence provided by SAPEA, informs the revision of the Council recommendations on cancer screening.
In light of the Commission's proposal of 20 September to revise cancer screening guidelines, the focus of this debate will be on the scientific developments that should be considered and the new research that should be started.
