Latest results of the World University Rankings 2022 and the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021.

Over the summer two university rankings were released: the World University Rankings 2022 and the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021.

According to the new World University Rankings 2022 from Times Higher Education, the University of Oxford (UK) tops the ranking, followed by the California Institute of Technology (US) and Harvard University (US), both in second place. The best scored university located in the EU is the LMU Munich (DE) at rank 32, followed by the Technical University of Munich (DE) at rank 38 and Karolinska Institute (SE) at rank 39.

Concerning the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021 published by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Harvard University (US) tops the ranking list for the 19th year in a row, followed by Stanford University (US) and the University of Cambridge (UK). As with the previous ranking, the top 10 is dominated by the US and British universities. The best scored university located in the EU is the Paris-Saclay University (FR) at rank 13, followed by the University of Copenhagen (DK) at rank 30 and Sorbonne University (FR) at rank 35.

US universities broadly dominate both rankings with almost half of the top 100 universities. Second comes the EU with 19 universities in the top 100 in the World University Rankings 2022 and 21 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021; followed by the United Kingdom. Canada, Australia, China and Switzerland are also quite well represented in the top 100 of both rankings.
