On 21 January 2021, Eurostat published the latest results on the use of cloud computing for business based on the annual survey on ICT usage and e-commerce in enterprises.

According to the latest results, in 2020, the use of cloud computing by entreprises in the EU stood at 36% of all entreprises with at least 10 persons employed (excl. financial sector). This share represents an increase of 12 percentage points in just 2 years, and the double of the share in comparison with 2014 (18%).

Within the EU, there is, however, strong variation. While the Nordic and most innovative countries such as Finland (75%), Sweden (70%) and Denmark (67%) make the top 3 countries with the highest shares; Bulgaria (11%) and Romania (16%), which are the least innovative countries in the EU, barely pass the threshold of 10% of enterprises using cloud computing services.

All the EU countries have increased their shares in the last years. However, Italy and Estonia outperform the other Member States, with an improvement of 36 and 22 percentage points, respectively since 2018.
