Commission sets out immediate actions to support the European wind power industry

To achieve the EU's renewable energy target of at least 42.5% by 2030 (with an ambition for 45% renewables), substantial growth in wind power capacity is needed, increasing from 204 GW in 2022 to over 500 GW in 2030. The European Commission has unveiled the European Wind Power Action Plan, focusing on various aspects to ensure this growth, including accelerated deployment, improved auction design, access to finance, fair international competition, skills development, and industry engagement.

The plan also addresses offshore wind energy, emphasizing the need for offshore infrastructure, permitting, Maritime Spatial Planning, resilience, research, and supply chains. The EU is committed to renewables as part of its Green Deal and REPowerEU Plan to achieve climate neutrality and reduce energy imports. This plan aims to strengthen the EU's position in clean energy technology, particularly onshore and offshore wind.
