All of us have been shaken by the terrible loss of life and the devastation caused by the powerful earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria earlier this week. To help with search and rescue efforts, the EU has already deployed, via its Civil Protection Mechanism, medical and search and rescue teams comprising over 1,500 rescuers and 100 search and rescue dogs. The EU and its Member States are also providing emergency humanitarian funding and other supports such as emergency accommodation, tents, clothing and food. To raise funds to deal with the aftermath, President von der Leyen and the Swedish Presidency have announced that a special Donors' Conference will take place in March.
