€60 million EU package for stabilisation of Iraq
On 12 October, the European Commission adopted a €60.4 million stabilisation package to support Iraq after the liberation of areas held by Da'esh. The package will help restore basic services and repair essential public infrastructure. It will support economic activity through grants to small businesses. The package includes funding for clearing land which has previously been contaminated by explosives. This is in addition to EU humanitarian aid already pledged for the country and other forms of financial assistance totalling €608.4 million since the beginning of the crisis.
