EU allocates €4.5 million for 324 Ukrainian scientists' projects to pursue their research (15/07/2024)

To provide continuous support to Ukrainian research, the Commission has tripled the initial budget of the EURIZON Fellowship Programme to €4.5 million under Horizon Europe. The Programme is expected to have significant positive impacts on the work of Ukrainian researchers, including the opportunity to restart their projects, conduct cutting-edge research, establish stable contact with international partners, and broaden research dissemination.

New calls for proposals open. Apply by 19 September! (15/07/2024)

Two new Research Infrastructures calls for proposals are open. Horizon Europe makes available €5 million to support research and innovation ideas on assessing the state of Research Infrastructures in Ukraine, and Future Engagement Model for the European Open Science Cloud Federation. Deadline to apply is 19 September.

Gender quality: what to take into account when preparing your proposal? (15/07/2024)

When applying for funding, consider that: 1. In Horizon Europe, gender balance is a ranking criterion for proposals with an equal score; 2. Gender Equality Plans (GEP) are an eligibility criterion for public bodies, research and higher education institutions; 3. Gender dimension in research is a mandatory requirement in all research and innovation projects, unless a topic explicitly specifies otherwise.

The second edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival will take place in April 2024. It aims to bring together innovators, creators, scientists, people, and collectives from all walks of life, contributing to building a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful. €320 million available for funding round in 2023 (07/02/2023)

New calls for proposals for EU funding in 2023 have already opened under Horizon Europe - Research Infrastructures. Topics include building a pan-European research infrastructure landscape, the European Open Science Cloud, greening research infrastructures and ensuring they serve the digital and green transitions, as well as improve healthcare, amongst others. Apply by March 9!

European Commission invests €180 million in research projects (07/02/2023)

The European Commission recently signed grant agreements with 27 research infrastructures projects. These projects are from calls for proposals for funding in 2022 and were selected following a rigorous evaluation process. The projects will contribute to fostering ground-breaking innovation in Europe.

Find inspiration in the first Research Infrastructures projects (07/02/2023)

The first projects to be selected for funding under Horizon Europe - Research Infrastructures are up and running. The projects were selected from a 2021 call for proposals and will research how to achieve the goals of the EU Cancer Mission, using Artificial Intelligence for the European Open Science Cloud, and ensuring data are shared for pandemic-preparedness. Swedish Presidency prioritises research infrastructures and their role in fostering excellence science (07/02/2023)

Building on the work of the Czech Presidency, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU will prioritise research infrastructures. According to the Swedish Presidency Programme, research infrastructures ‘contribute to research quality and social benefit’. This is why the Presidency will highlight the ‘importance of measures that increase access to research infrastructures, and to their data and services, for researchers, businesses and society at large’.

Largest public consultation on EU research policy launched (07/02/2023)

A public consultation has been launched on the past, present and future of the EU’s research programmes. Stakeholders can provide input on the performance of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, as well as identify priorities for the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027. The survey is available in English, French, and German; answers can be provided in any EU language. Fill it out below!

How Research Infrastructures Provide New Opportunities and Benefits for Society (19/06/2023)

The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU is organising an event on how open research data can potentially solve societal challenges, with a focus on the specific role research infrastructures can play. The event will take place on 19 – 20 June 2023 in Lund, Sweden. It will also include study visits to the MAX IV Laboratory and the European Spallation Source.

First projects to start their research under Horizon Europe – Research Infrastructures (23/09/2022)

The European Commission recently signed grant agreements with 29 projects under Horizon Europe – Research Infrastructures. The projects will research a range of topics; from open data for pandemic preparedness to services for the green and digital transitions. Mining the Future (23/09/2022)

The Mining the Future competition, co-organised by CERN and the EU-funded FCCIS, was a call for solutions for the sustainable use of excavated materials. Following a rigorous evaluation process, four short-listed proposals are in the running for a prize. The winner(s) will be awarded at a special event on September 27 at CERN in Meyrin, Switzerland. Studying weather in space (23/09/2022)

This Research Infrastructures project is upgrading the LOFAR telescope—the largest radio telescope in the world—to improve how we observe, and in turn study, space weather. The project recently featured in a CORDIS Results in Brief article.

Predicting earthquakes to save lives (23/09/2022)

Two EU-funded projects—SERA and EPOS IP—are updating the European earthquake risk model. By developing the means to foresee seismic activity and any eventual risk of earthquakes occurring, countless lives can be saved. Read about their work in the article link below.

European Research and Innovation Days (28/09/2022)

The European R&I Days are taking place on September 28 and 29. Register to attend Europe’s largest research event for the chance to discuss how to shape the future of science, innovation, and policy. Several projects managed by the European Research Executive Agency will feature. The event will take place online.

International Conference on Research Infrastructures 2022 (19/10/2022)

The International Conference on Research Infrastructures, or ICRI, will be held on the 19-21 of October in Brno, Czech Republic. The event is part of the Czech Presidency of the Council and is co-hosted by the European Commission. Attend for the chance to discuss international cooperation in research infrastructures.
