In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, EURIZON project launched ‘Remote Research Grants,’ supporting 56 teams of 324 Ukrainian researchers. A new European Infrastructure Consortium for Heritage Science (07/04/2025)

The European Commission has granted the legal status of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) to the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS). A discovery by an EU-supported project opens a new observational window on the universe (21/02/2025)

KM3NET, a giant neutrino telescope sitting at the bottom of the sea, has detected the highest-energy neutrino ever observed. The neutrino travelled at the speed of light directly from the cosmos to the Mediterranean Sea. This discovery provides the first evidence of neutrinos with such high energies being produced and can help unlock the mysteries of violent phenomena in the Universe. The discovery has been published in Nature Magazine and has received global media coverage. KM3NET is receiving EU funding under Horizon Europe’s Research Infrastructures.

First Transnational Access Call to Research Infrastructures to support the transformation of the blue economy opening soon (21/02/2025)

The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership will launch a call on ‘Piloting access to shared Research Infrastructures (RIs) at pan-European scale and reinforce capacities to support the transformation of the blue economy’. It will enable applicants to submit a proposal to use the RIs made available from seven different countries across all EU sea-basins and the Atlantic Ocean. The portfolio encompasses 48 RIs of typologies such as: research vessels, fixed platforms, portable equipment or high-performance computing centres. The call opens on 28 February. Making Artificial Intelligence (AI) accessible for life science research (21/02/2025)

EU allocates €4.5 million for 324 Ukrainian scientists' projects to pursue their research (15/07/2024)

To provide continuous support to Ukrainian research, the Commission has tripled the initial budget of the EURIZON Fellowship Programme to €4.5 million under Horizon Europe. The Programme is expected to have significant positive impacts on the work of Ukrainian researchers, including the opportunity to restart their projects, conduct cutting-edge research, establish stable contact with international partners, and broaden research dissemination.

Gender quality: what to take into account when preparing your proposal? (15/07/2024)

When applying for funding, consider that: 1. In Horizon Europe, gender balance is a ranking criterion for proposals with an equal score; 2. Gender Equality Plans (GEP) are an eligibility criterion for public bodies, research and higher education institutions; 3. Gender dimension in research is a mandatory requirement in all research and innovation projects, unless a topic explicitly specifies otherwise.

Swedish Presidency prioritises research infrastructures and their role in fostering excellence science (07/02/2023)

Building on the work of the Czech Presidency, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU will prioritise research infrastructures. According to the Swedish Presidency Programme, research infrastructures ‘contribute to research quality and social benefit’. This is why the Presidency will highlight the ‘importance of measures that increase access to research infrastructures, and to their data and services, for researchers, businesses and society at large’.

Largest public consultation on EU research policy launched (07/02/2023)

A public consultation has been launched on the past, present and future of the EU’s research programmes. Stakeholders can provide input on the performance of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, as well as identify priorities for the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027. How Research Infrastructures Provide New Opportunities and Benefits for Society (19/06/2023)

The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU is organising an event on how open research data can potentially solve societal challenges, with a focus on the specific role research infrastructures can play. The event will take place on 19 – 20 June 2023 in Lund, Sweden. It will also include study visits to the MAX IV Laboratory and the European Spallation Source.

Mining the Future (23/09/2022)

The Mining the Future competition, co-organised by CERN and the EU-funded FCCIS, was a call for solutions for the sustainable use of excavated materials. Following a rigorous evaluation process, four short-listed proposals are in the running for a prize. The winner(s) will be awarded at a special event on September 27 at CERN in Meyrin, Switzerland.
