Italy - RFI: awarded tender for technological upgrade of Salerno Node

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group) has awarded a EUR 15 million contract for a new Computerised Central Control Equipment (ACC) system at Salerno Central. Replacing older electromechanical systems, the ACC will improve traffic flexibility and reduce failures and restoration times. This upgrade, handled by a consortium of Italian companies, is a key step towards implementing ERTMS on the Naples-Salerno line, aiming to boost infrastructure reliability and service quality.

The new ACC, a system of the highest technological level in the railway signalling sector, will ensure greater flexibility in traffic management and a reduction in possible failures and related restoration times.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group) has awarded a tender worth approximately EUR 15 million for the executive design and construction of a new Computerised Central Control Equipment (ACC) at the Salerno Central junction, to replace the existing electromechanical systems (ACEI) at Salerno and Salerno Irno.

The new ACC will provide enhanced traffic management capabilities and reduce the likelihood of failures and the associated restoration times. The contract also includes numerous technological and infrastructural upgrades throughout the entire Salerno node.

The works have been awarded to the Temporary Grouping of Companies Mermec Ste S.r.l. / S.I.F.I.S. S.r.l. / Gi.Fe Costruzioni S.r.l., and the executive design services to the Temporary Grouping of Designers Mer Mec Ste S.r.l. / Sintagma S.r.l.

This work represents a functional step for future phases of implementation of the ERTMS on the conventional Naples-Salerno line, a signalling system adopted on high-speed lines, which will ensure greater reliability of the infrastructure, leading to improvements in the regularity of traffic and the quality of service.
